Restored English Translation of Genesis: Chapter 25

G’day, everyone!  Today I present my Restored English Translation (RET) of Beresheet ( Genesis ) chapter 25.  As usual, it contains the Hebrew names , with a glossary of them afterwards.  At the end is a list of where the Aleph-Tavs occur, as they are no longer included in the main text . CHAPTER 25 1 Then Avraham added and took a wife, and her name was Keturah. 2 And she bore to him Zimran, and Yokshan, and Medan, and Midyan, and Yishbak, and Shuach. 3 And Yokshan fathered Sheva and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim. 4 And the sons of Midyan: Efah, and Efer, and Chanok, and Avida, and Elda’ah. All these were the children of Keturah. 5 And Avraham gave all that he had to Yitschak. 6 But Avraham gave gifts to the sons of the concubines, whom Avraham had, and sent them away from his son Yitschak while he was still alive, eastward to the east country. 7 And these are the days of the years of Avraham’s life which he lived...

Restored English Translation of Genesis: Chapter 24

G’day everyone (and a welcome to my new followers)!  Today I present my Restored English Translation (RET) of Beresheet ( Genesis ) chapter 24.  Yes, this is the chapter I quoted the RET of earlier in the week (in A History of Marriage – Part 1 ), which surprisingly no-one noticed.  As usual, the RET of chapter 24 includes the Hebrew names , with a glossary of them afterwards.  At the end is a list of where the Aleph Tavs occur, as they are no longer included in the main text. CHAPTER 24 1 And Avraham was old, and well gone in days; and YEHOVAH had blessed Avraham in all things. 2 And Avraham said to his eldest servant of his house, who ruled over all that was put to him, “Please put your hand under my thigh. 3 And I will make you swear by YEHOVAH ELOHAY, the ELOHIM of the heavens and of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son of the Kena’ani women, among whom I live. 4 But you will go to my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife for...

Restored English Translation of Genesis: Chapter 22

Today I present my Restored English Translation (RET) of the 22nd chapter of the Sefer Beresheet , otherwise known as the Book of Genesis .  As usual, it contains the Hebrew names , with a glossary of them afterwards.  It also contains a glossary of where the Aleph/Tavs  occur, as they are no longer included in the main text. This is the chapter in which Abraham nearly sacrificed his son Isaac.  In verse 8, most translations read " Abraham answered, 'God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.'  And the two of them went on together."  However, the Hebrew literally reads "Elohim [God] will provide Himself the lamb for the burnt offering" - a clear Messianic prophecy of Yehoshua ha'Mashiach (Jesus Christ). CHAPTER 22 1 And after these things ELOHIM, testing Avraham, said to him, "Avraham!" And he answered, "I am here." 2 And He said, "Take now your son, your only one, whom you love, Yitschak, and go i...

Restored English Translation of Genesis: Chapter 21

Today I present my Restored English Translation (RET) of Beresheet ( Genesis ) chapter 21.  As usual, it contains the Hebrew names , with a glossary of them afterwards.  At the very end is a list of where the Aleph/Tavs occur, as they are no longer included in the main text. CHAPTER 21 1 And YEHOVAH visited Sarah as He had said, and YEHOVAH did to Sarah as He had said. 2 For Sarah conceived and bore Avraham a son in his old age at the set time of which ELOHIM had spoken to him. 3 And Avraham called the name of the son who was born to him, whom Sarah had borne to him, Yitschak. 4 And Avraham circumcised his son Yitschak, a son of 8 days, as ELOHIM had commanded him. 5 And Avraham was 100 years old when his son Yitachak was born to him . 6 And Sarah said, “ELOHIM has made laughter for me. All that hear will laugh with me.” 7 And she said, “Who would have said to Avraham, ‘Sarah will suckle children’? For I have born him a son in his old age.” 8 And the child gr...

Restored English Translation of Genesis: Chapter 18

G’day, mates!  This is my Restored English Translation of Beresheet ( Genesis ) chapter 18.  As usual, it contains the Hebrew names , with a glossary of them afterwards.  In another list at the end are the Aleph-Tavs (which are no longer included in the main text ). There is some controversy over the  last part of verse 22.  The Masoretic Text – the basis for most translations – reads “and Abraham stood yet before YEHOVAH”.  However, the Massorah – footnotes on the text by the Masoretic scribes – claims that the text originally read “and YEHOVAH stood yet before Abraham”, but that they changed it because they judged the original “irreverent”.  However, the Dead Sea Scrolls, Samaritan Pentateuch, Aramaic Peshitta and Greek Septuagint all agree with the Masoretic reading (“Abraham stood yet before YEHOVAH”), and there are literally no manuscripts supporting the Massorah’s reading, so I have followed the majority here. CHAPTER 18 1 ...
