Restored English Translation of Genesis: Chapter 49

Today I present my Restored English Translation (RET) of Beresheet ( Genesis ) chapter 49.  As usual, it contains the Hebrew names , with a glossary of them after the chapter.  At the end is a list of where the Aleph-Tavs occur, as they are no longer included in the main text. CHAPTER 49 1 And Ya’akov called to his sons and said, “Gather yourselves together, and I will tell you what will happen to you in the end days. 2 Gather yourselves together and hear, you sons of Ya’akov, and listen to your father Yisra’el. 3 Re’uven my firstborn, you are my strength, and the beginning of my vigour, the excess of exaltation, and the excess of power. 4 Like frothing as water you will not excel, because you went up to your father’s bed, then you defiled it . He went up to my couch. 5 “Shimon and Levi are brothers; instruments of violence are in their weapons. 6 Do not let my soul enter their secret; do not let my honour be joined to their assembly. For in their anger ...

Restored English Translation of Genesis: Chapter 46

Today I present my Restored English Translation (RET) of Beresheet ( Genesis ) chapter 46.  As usual, it contains the Hebrew names , with a glossary of them afterwards.  At the end is a list of where the Aleph-Tavs occur, as they are no longer included in the main text. (Note: this is my own translation of the Bible.) In verse 27, most translations follow the Masoretic Text, Samaritan Pentateuch and Aramaic Peshitta in listing 70 souls.  The Septuagint and Dead Sea Scrolls, however, read 75 souls, as does Acts 7:14, which I have hence followed.  The discrepancy in the numbers is over whether or not Joseph's grandsons are to be counted.  I have followed the Septuagint in counting them.   CHAPTER 46 1 And Yisra'el started on his journey with all that he had, and came to Be'er-Sheva, and offered sacrifices to the ELOHAY of his father Yitschak. 2 And ELOHIM spoke to Yisra'el in the visions of the night and said, "Ya'akov! Ya'akov!" ...

Restored English Translation of Genesis: Chapter 35

Here is the latest installment in my Restored English Translation (RET) of the Bible: Beresheet ( Genesis ) chapter 35.  As usual, it contains the Hebrew names , with a glossary of them after the chapter.  At the end is a list of where the Aleph-Tavs occur , as they are no longer included in the main text . CHAPTER 35 1 And ELOHIM said to Ya'akov, "Arise, go up to Beyt-El and live there. And make an altar there to ELOHIM Who appeared to you when you fled from the face of your brother Esav." 2 Then Ya'akov said to his household and to all that were with him, "Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your clothing. 3 And let us arise and go up to Beyt-El, and I will make there an altar to EL, Who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went." 4 And they gave all the strange gods which were in their hand  and the rings which were in their ears to Ya'akov. And Ya'akov hid them un...

Restored English Translation of Genesis: Chapter 33

Today I present my Restored English Translation (RET) of Beresheet ( Genesis ) chapter 33.  As usual, it contains the Hebrew names , with a glossary of them after the chapter.  At the very end is a list of where the Aleph Tavs occur (as they are no longer included in the main text). CHAPTER 33 1 And Ya'akov lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, Esav came, and with him 400 men. And he divided the children to Leah and to Rachel, and to the two female slaves. 2   And he put the female slaves and their children first, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Yosef last. 3 And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother. 4 And Esav ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. And they wept. 5 And he lifted up his eyes and saw the women and the children, and said, "Who are those with you?" And he answered, "The children whom ELOHIM has graciously ...
