Restored English Translation of Genesis: Chapter 12

Here is my Restored English Translation (RET) of Beresheet (Genesis) chapter 12.  As usual, it contains the Hebrew names and a glossary of them after the chapter.  As usual, I include the Aleph Tavs in a separate section at the end, as I no longer believe in them.

CHAPTER 12

1 Now YEHOVAH had said to Avram, “Go for yourself from your land, and from your kindred, and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. 2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 And I will bless them that bless you and curse him that curses you. And all the families of the earth shall be blessed in you.” 4 So Avram departed as YEHOVAH had commanded him, and Lot went with him. And Avram was a son of 75 years old when he left Charan. 5 And Avram took Sarai his wife and his brother’s son Lot, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the persons that they had gotten in Charan. And they went forth to go into the land of Kena’an, and into the land of Kena’an they came. 6 And Avram passed through the land to the place of Shekem, to the plain of Moreh. And the Kena’ani was then in the land. 7 And YEHOVAH appeared to Avram and said, “I will give this land to your seed.”  And there he built an altar to YEHOVAH, Who appeared to him. 8 And he moved from there to a mountain on the east of Beyt-El, and pitched his tent, having Beyt-El towards the sea and Ai on the east. And there he built an altar to YEHOVAH, and called on the Name of YEHOVAH. 9 And Avram journeyed, going on still towards the Negev.

10 And there was a famine in the land, and Avram went down into Mitsrayim to stay there, for the famine was grievous in the land. 11 And it happened, when he came near to enter into Mitsrayim, that he said to his wife Sarai, “Behold now, I know that you are a fair woman to look on. 12 Therefore it will be, when the Mitsrim see you, that they will say, ‘This is his wife’, and they will kill me, but they will save you alive. 13 I pray you, say that you are my sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and I will live because of you.” 14 And it was, when Avram had come into Mitsrayim, that the Mitsrim saw the woman, that she was very beautiful. 15 The princes of Pharaoh also saw her and commended her before Pharaoh. And the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house. 16 And he treated Avram well for her sake; and he had sheep, and oxen, and male donkeys, and male servants, and female slaves, and female donkeys, and camels. 17 And YEHOVAH plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Avraham’s wife Sarai. 18 And Pharaoh called for Avram and said, “What is this you have done to me? Why didn’t you tell me that she is your wife? 19 Why did you say, ‘She is my sister’? And so I took her to me for a wife! Now therefore, behold, your wife. Take her, and go.” 20 And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him, and they sent away him and his wife and all that he had.
