Yep, it’s that time again – a Reader Request!  Ask me any question you want, and I’ll attempt to answer them on Friday (or possibly Saturday if I’m running late). (Note that that’s Australian time; depending on where you are in the world, the deadline will possibly be Thursday.)

Enoch Calendar for the southern hemisphere/ahead of /before Jerusalem time zone

Image
This is the feast calendar I follow, as applied to timezones east of Jerusalem (whether northern or southern hemisphere). (The difference has nothing to do with the earth tilt.) Truth New Year and Feast Days that aren’t High Sabbaths High-Sabbath Feast Days in Leviticus 23 Hannukah & Purim The biblical day starts in the evening, so the highlighted days start half-way through “the day”. The blue days in March is Purim. (Read Esther) The red day in middle of March is New Year, and not a Shabbat. The feast at the end of March and beginning of April is Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. The green days are high-shabbats. The feast day near the end of May is the Feast of Weeks/Shavuot/Pentecost. The feast day near the end of September is the Feast of Trumpets/Yom Teruah. The first feast day in October is Day of Atonement/Yom Kippur. The second lot of feast days in October is the Feast of Tabernacles/Sukkot. (This is when ...

Shavuot - The Feast of Pentecost

Image
Today was Pentecost (in Australia, on my calendar.) J-M's History Corner Today (for me – in Australia) is the Feast of Shavuot, known in English as Pentecost.  Most probably celebrate it on a different date; see Feast Calendar and Yom Teruah – The Feast of Trumpets for an explanation of my calendar.  See also Does the Torah Still Apply? for why this feast wasn’t done away with by Yeshua/Jesus. The Biblical instructions for this feast are: 15  “You shall count seven full weeks from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering. 16  You shall count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath. Then you shall present a grain offering of new grain to the Lord . 17  You shall bring from your dwelling places two loaves of bread to be waved, made of two tenths of an ephah. They shall be of fine flour, and they shall be baked… View original post 2,110 more words

Show Yourself!

Image
Blockbusters Reviewed Racheal and I are singing once again – this time the song “Show Yourself” from the movie Frozen II , which in the movie is sung by Idina Menzel’s character Queen Elsa. We had a lot of fun! Our brother Zac provided the music, and sits in the background – providing comic expressions and interjections. At one point, you can hear our young siblings fighting in the background (not unusual). And at the end, our 3-year-old brother Edward shows up – with his lightsaber, of course. All in all, a lot of fun! http://www.cepher.net/?af=59 View original post

Refuting Myths, Misconceptions and Lies About Our Faith

Image
Here is a collection of a few different, persistent, and very frustrating myths, misconceptions, or even outright lies that circulate in connection with Christianity.  I thought I'd gather a few into one place and set the record straight. "Constantine/the Council of Nicea invented Jesus/Jesus' divinity/the doctrine of Hell in 325 AD" Whoever came up with this one either didn't bother to do any research, or was simply dishonest.  Or perhaps was simply an author of fiction whom some idiots mistook for an author of fact. (The above graphic - used to illustrate the claim - is taken from the novel The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown.  I can't speak for the book - which I haven't read - but in the movie, the character of Teabing is shown to be at least partly wrong, and his opinions are simply his opinions.  It's a good movie, by the way.) The following graphic does a good job refuting part of the claim: Additionally, we have New Testament manuscripts f...

Welcome to the 32nd edition of My Fortnightly Movie/TV Thoughts !  Last fortnight, I reviewed Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 (2010) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 (2011) .  This fortnight, I'm reviewing: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016), rated M for fantasy themes and violence Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018), rated M for fantasy themes and violence Those are the Australian ratings; in the United States, they're rated: Fantastic Beasts - PG-13 for some fantasy action violence The Crimes of Grindelwald - PG-13 for some sequences of fantasy action As usual, I'll give the trailers at the end, along with a clip each. And as usual, just to be safe, I issue the following disclaimer: WARNING: POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD.  PROCEED AT OWN RISK. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them While the story of Harry Potter has long since come to an end, given the series' immense popularity, it probably i...
