Retrocausality - or, Wibbly-Wobbly Timey-Wimey Stuff

https://youtu.be/q2nNzNo_Xps The Doctor’s famous description of time in Doctor Who – first introduced in the episode Blink , seen above – may be closer to the truth than you think. Can the Future Affect the Past? These Physics Experiments Demonstrate How Three experiments show that future events can affect the past. By  Marcia Wendorf June 28, 2019 The universe gremlin/iStock We all know that the quantum world is weird, but just how weird is it that the future can affect the past? Indeterminacy is the fact that in quantum mechanics, no matter how much you know about a quantum particle, you can’t predict its quantum state until you measure it. Instead, what quantum mechanics provides is the statistical probabilities of a particular state. This is best summed up by Schrodinger’s  famous cat in a box , who is in a superposition , being both alive and dead, until the box is opened. A particle’s state is not just unknown, it is truly undetermined until it is measured. It is t

The Best Star Wars Movie Scenes

Image
Just over a year ago, in December 2019, the Skywalker Saga – the main element of the Star Wars franchise up until then – came to an epic end with The Rise of Skywalker . Presented here, in no particular order, are some of the best scenes from the 9 Skywalker movies – plus the 2 Anthology movies, Rogue One and Solo . WARNING: SPOILERS! “No, I am your father” ( The Empire Strikes Back ) One of the best scenes in all of cinema. Both shocking and chilling. It’s not surprising that it regularly ranks as the most popular Star Wars moment – even if it’s also the most misquoted (it’s “No, I am your father”, not “Luke, I am your father”). https://youtu.be/Lbjru5CQIW4   Duel of the Fates ( The Phantom Menace ) Darth Maul’s duel with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan is the highlight of Episode I, and one of the best lightsaber duels in the series. Epic action, epic music, epic choreography – this scene has it all! https://youtu.be/9Uvad9uSc9k   “I am all the

The World's Monarchs

Many think of monarchy as a dying, outdated, mediaeval institution. And yet, at the same time, one of the two most well-known state leaders in the world (alongside the American President) – and THE most popular (sorry, America) – is the Queen of the United Kingdom, Elizabeth II, who is also the Queen of 15 other countries, and the former Queen of 17 more. While certainly not the norm it was at the beginning of last century, monarchy is not as rare as many think – 44 countries, or about a quarter of the world’s nations, have a monarch. There are 30 reigning monarchs (before you ask about the discrepancy, two words: Queen Elizabeth. Also, Andorra has two monarchs.). (Although it’s become increasingly common to view Eswatini as having two monarchs, in which case there are 31 reigning monarchs.) (And North Korea is a de facto absolute monarchy, making 45 monarchies and 32 monarchs around the world.) (The Principality of Sealand is for all intents and purposes a
