Restored English Translation of Matthew: Chapter 5

G'day everyone!  Today I present my Restored English Translation (RET) of the 5th chapter of the Besorot Matityahu, commonly known in English as the Gospel of Matthew.  As usual, it contains the Hebrew names, with a glossary at the end.  This translation is primarily based on the original Hebrew, and so will sometimes differ from conventional translations (although rarely on something doctrinally significant).
This chapter contains one of the strongest statements on the fact that the Torah - the Sabbath, Feasts (Passover etc) - still apply to us today.  See verses 17-19, and Does the Torah Still Apply?.
CHAPTER 5
1 And seeing the multitudes, He went up into a mountain. And when He was set, His disciples came to Him. 2 And He opened His mouth, and taught them, saying, 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven. 4 Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the Land. 6 Blessed are they who do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they will be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will obtain mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see ELOHIM.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of ELOHIM. 10 Blessed are they who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven. 11 Blessed are you when men will revile you and persecute you and will say all manner of evil against you falsely, for My sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad, for great is your reward in Heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. 13 You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has lost its flavour, with what will it be salted? It is good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot by men. 14 You are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father Who is in Heaven. 17 Do not think that I have come to destroy the Torah, or the prophets; I have not come to destroy, but to fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, until Heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle will in no way pass from the Torah, until all be fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore will break one of the least of these commandments, and will teach men so, he will be called the least in the kingdom of Heaven. But whoever will do and teach them, the same will be called great in the kingdom of Heaven. 20 For I say to you, that unless your righteousness will exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Prushim, you will in no way enter into the kingdom of Heaven. 21 You have heard that it was said by them of old time, ‘You will not murder’; and ‘Whoever will murder will be in danger of the judgment’. 22 But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother will be in danger of the judgment, and whoever says to his brother, ‘You are nothing’, will be in danger of the council. But whoever will say, ‘You fool’, will be condemned to the fire of Gey Hinnom. 23 Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has ought against you,
24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison. 26 Verily I say to you, you will by no means come out of there until you have paid the uttermost farthing. 27 You have heard that it was said by them of old time, ‘You will not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that whoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. 29 And if your right eye offends you, pluck it out and cast it from you. For it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, rather than that your whole body should be cast into Sheol. 30 And if your right hand offends you, cut if off and cast it from you. For it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, rather than that your whole body should be cast into Sheol. 31 It has been said, ‘Whosoever will put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement.’ 32 But I say to you that whoever will put away his wife, saving for the cause of immorality, commits adultery with her. And whoever will marry that divorced woman commits adultery. 33 Again, you have heard that it has been said by them of old time, ‘You will not swear by yourself, but will perform your oaths to YEHOVAH.’ 34 But I say unto you, do not swear falsely at all - neither by Heaven, for it is ELOHIM’s throne; 35 nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; neither by Yerushalayim, for it is the city of the great King; 36 neither will you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. 37 But let your yes be yes, and your no be no; for whatever is more than these comes of evil. 38 You have heard that it has been said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say to you that you do not resist evil, but whoever will smite you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40 And if any man will sue you at the law and take away your coat, let him have your cloak as well. 41 And whoever will compel you to go a mile, go two with him. 42 Give to him who asks you, and do not turn away from him who would borrow of you. 43 You have heard that it has been said, ‘You will love your neighbour and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be the children of your Father Who is in Heaven; for He makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love them who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the publicans do the same? 47 And if you salute your brothers only, what do you more than others? Do not even the publicans do the same? 48 Therefore be perfect, even as your Father Who is in Heaven is perfect.”
