Restored English Translation of Esther: Chapter 6

Today I present my Restored English Translation (RET) of Ester (Esther) chapter 6.  Apart from the last couple of verses (which usually appears at the end of chapter 3), this chapter is not part of most English translations: it’s part of the oldest textual traditions, but (historically unjustifiably) rejected by modern Protestants and Rabbinic Jews, classified among the “Apocrypha”.  See The Canon of Scripture, Part 1: The Apocrypha and Restored English Translation of Esther: Chapter 1.  As usual, it contains the Hebrew names, with a glossary of them at the end.
CHAPTER 6 
1 The copy of the letters was this: “The great King Achashverosh writes these things to the princes and governors who are under him from Hodu to Kush in 127 provinces. 2 After that I became master over many nations and had dominion over the whole world, not lifted up with presumption of my authority, but carrying myself always with equity and mildness, I purposed to settle my subjects continually in a quiet life, and making my kingdom peaceable, and open for passage to the utmost coasts, to renew peace, which is desired of all men. 3 Now when I asked my counselors how this might be brought to pass, Haman, who excelled in wisdom among us, and was approved for his constant good will and steadfast fidelity, and had the honour of the second place in the kingdom, 4 declared to us that in all nations throughout the world there was scattered a certain malicious people, who had laws contrary to all nations, and continually despised the commandments of kings, so as the uniting of our kingdoms, honourably intended by us, cannot go forward. 5 Seeing then we understand that this people alone is continually in opposition to all men, differing in the strange manner of their laws and planning evil against our state, working all the mischief they can that our kingdom may not be firmly established; 6 for this reason have we commanded, that all they who are signified in writing to you by Haman, who is ordained over the affairs, and is next to us, will all, with their wives and children, be utterly destroyed by the sword of their enemies, without all mercy and pity, the 14th day of the 12th month Adar of this present year. 7 That they, who of old and now also are malicious, may in one day with violence go into the grave, and so from now on cause our affairs to be well settled, and without trouble. 8 A copy of the writing for a commandment to be given as an edict in every province was published to all people, that they should be ready for that day.” 9 The runners went out, being hurried by the king’s commandment, and the decree and the edict was given in Shushan the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city Shushan was perplexed.

Evidence for Giants

You will find in the Bible and in innumerable ancient legends references to giant; humanoids who were (often much) taller (and stronger) than normal.  (Gigantism – where a person is abnormally large, but weak – is entirely different.)  They often have a supernatural origin, the result of a union between supernatural beings and human women.  The Bible calls them the Nephillim and Rephaim.  The Greeks called them the Titans. Revisiting Christmas

Well, today (in Australia) is Christmas Day.  Quite possibly THE most popular holiday in the world (although the media’s trying to make horrid Halloween more and more popular). For those of you who celebrate it, I hope you’re having/have a great day.  For those of you (like me) for whom it’s just another normal day (and no, that’s not “legalistic”), I hope you’re having/have a great day. Although it’s become lost in modern consumerism, Christmas is claimed to be a celebration of Christ’s birthday – although it’s generally agreed that He wasn’t born on that day. Some of you might remember my post Christmas , in which I argued that it is an appropriated pagan festival (see Deuteronomy 12:30-31, Matthew 5, and Does the Torah Still Apply? ).  However, I have since discovered that some of the claims are false. “False” as in I’m seriously questioning my view of Christmas as a pagan festival.
