Restored English Translation of Genesis: Chapter 35
Here is the latest installment in my Restored English Translation (RET) of the Bible: Beresheet (Genesis) chapter 35. As usual, it contains the Hebrew names, with a glossary of them after the chapter. At the end is a list of where the Aleph-Tavs occur, as they are no longer included in the main text.
9 And ELOHIM appeared to Ya'akov again when he came out of Padan-Aram, and blessed him. 10 And ELOHIM said to him, "Your name is Ya'akov. Your name will not be called Ya'akov anymore, but your name will be Yisra'el." And he called his name Yisra'el. 11 And ELOHIM said to him, "I AM EL SHADDAI! Be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations will be from you, and kings will come out of your loins. 12 And the land which I gave Avraham and Yitschak, to you I will give it, and I will give the land to your seed after you." 13 And ELOHIM went up from him in the place where He talked with him. 14 And Ya'akov set up a pillar in the place where He talked with him, even a pillar of stone. And he poured a drink offering on it, and he poured oil on it. 15 And Ya'akov called the name of the place where ELOHIM spoke with him Beyt-El. 16 And they journeyed from Beyt-El; and there was still some length to come to Efrat. And Rachel gave birth, and she had hard labour in her bearing. 17 And it was, when she was in hard labour in her birth, that the midwife said to her, "Fear not, for this also is a son for you." 18 And it was, as her soul was in departing (for she died) that she called his name Ben-Oni; but his father called him Binyamin. 19 And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Efrat, which is Beyt-Lechem. 20 And Ya'akov set a pillar on her grave. That is the pillar of Rachel's grave to this day. 21 And Yisra'el journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar. 22 And it was when Yisra'el lived in that land, that Re'uven went and had sex with his father's concubine Bilhah. And Yisra'el heard it.
Now the sons of Ya'akov were 12: 23 the sons of Leah: Ya'akov's firstborn Re'uven, and Shimon, and Levi, and Yehudah, and Yissakar, and Zevulun. 24 The sons of Rachel: Yosef and Binyamin. 25 And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's female slave: Dan and Naftali. 26 And the sons of Tsilpah, Leah's female slave: Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Ya'akov, who were born to him in Padan-Aram. 27 And Ya'akov came to his father Yitschak to Mamre, to Kiryat Arbah (which is Chevron), where Avraham and Yitschak sojourned. 28 And the days of Yitschak were 180 years. 29 And Yitschak expired and died and was gathered to his people, being old and full of days. And his sons Esav and Ya'akov buried him.

CHAPTER 35
1 And ELOHIM said to Ya'akov, "Arise, go up to Beyt-El and live there. And make an altar there to ELOHIM Who appeared to you when you fled from the face of your brother Esav." 2 Then Ya'akov said to his household and to all that were with him, "Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your clothing. 3 And let us arise and go up to Beyt-El, and I will make there an altar to EL, Who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went." 4 And they gave all the strange gods which were in their hand and the rings which were in their ears to Ya'akov. And Ya'akov hid them under the oak which was by Shechem. 5 And they journeyed. And the terror of ELOHIM was on the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Ya'akov. 6 So Ya'akov came to Luz, which is in the land of Kena'an (that is, Beyt-El), he and all the people that were with him. 7 And he built an altar there, and called the place El-Beyt-El, because The ELOHIM appeared to him there when he fled from the face of his brother. 8 But Rivkah's nurse Devorah died, and she was buried beneath Beyt-El under an oak; and the name of it was called Alon-Bachut.9 And ELOHIM appeared to Ya'akov again when he came out of Padan-Aram, and blessed him. 10 And ELOHIM said to him, "Your name is Ya'akov.
