Restored English Translation of Genesis: Chapter 37

Today I present my Restored English Translation (RET) of Beresheet (Genesis) chapter 37.  As usual, it contains the Hebrew names (with a glossary of them afterwards), and at the end a a list of where the Aleph-Tavs occur (as they are no longer included in the main text).
(To clarify: this is MY OWN translation of the Bible, a “work in progress”.  The chapters I post are completed, though.)

CHAPTER 37

1 And Ya’akov lived in the land in which his father was a stranger, in the land of Kena’an. 2 These are the generations of Ya’akov. Yosef, a son of 17 years, was feeding the flock with his brothers; and the lad was with the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives. And Yosef brought their evil report to his father. 3 Now Yisra’el loved Yosef more than all his sons, because he was the son of his old age. And he made him a coat reaching to the feet. 4 And when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably to him. 5 And Yosef dreamed a dream, and he told it his brothers; and they hated him even more. 6 And he said to them, “Please hear this dream which I have dreamed. 7 For behold, we were binding sheaves in the field. And behold, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and bowed themselves to my sheaf.” 8 And his brothers said to him, “Will you indeed reign over us? Or will you indeed have dominion over us?” And they hated him even more for his dreams, and for his words. 9 And he dreamed yet another dream and told it his brothers, and said, “Behold, I have dreamed a dream again; and behold, the sun and the moon and the 11 stars bowed themselves to me.” 10 And he told it to his father and to his brothers. And his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Will I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow ourselves to you to the earth?” 11 And his brothers envied him; but his father observed the word. 12 And his brothers went to tend the flock in Shekem. 13 And Yisra’el said to Yosef, “Are not your brothers tending the flock in Shekem? Come, and I will send you to them.” And he said to him, “Here I am.” 14 And he said to him, “Please go, see whether it be well with your brothers and well with the flocks, and bring me word again.” So he sent him out of the vale of Chevron, and he came to Shekem. 15 And a certain man found him, and behold, he was wandering in the field. And the man asked him, saying, “What do you seek?” 16 And he answered, “My brothers. Please tell me where they tend their flocks.” 17 And the man said, “They have left here; for I heard them say, ‘Let us go to Dotan.'” And Yosef went after his brothers and found them in Dotan. 18 And they saw him from a distance, and before he came near to them, they conspired against him to kill him. 19 And they said each to his brother, “Behold, this master of dreams comes. 20 And come now, let us kill him and cast him into some pit, and we will say, ‘Some evil beast has devoured him.’ And we will see what will become of his dreams.” 21 And Re’uven heard it, and he delivered him out of their hands, and said, “Let us not kill him.” 22 And Re’uven said to them, “Shed no blood, but cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, and lay no hand on him”; that he might rid him out of their hands, to deliver him to his father again. 23 And it was, when Yosef had come to his brothers, that they stripped Yosef out of his long coat, his coat reaching to the feet that was on him. 24 And they took him and cast him into a pit; and the pit was empty, there was no water in it. 25 And they sat down to eat bread. And they lifted up their eyes and looked, and behold, a company of Yishma’elim came from Gilad with their camels bearing spices and balm and ladanum, going to carry it down to Mitsrayim. 26 And Yehudah said to his brothers, “What profit is it if we kill our brother, and conceal his blood? 27 Come, let us sell him to the Yishma’elim, and do not not let our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh.” And his brothers listened. 28 Then Midianim merchantmen passed by; and they drew and lifted up Yosef out of the pit, and sold Yosef to the Yishma’elim for 20 pieces of silver. And they brought Yosef into Mitsrayim. 29 And Re’uven returned to the pit, and behold, Yosef was not in the pit. And he tore his clothes. 30 And he returned to his brothers and said, “The child is not; and I, where will I go?” 31 And they took Yosef’s long coat, and killed a ram of the goats, and dipped the long coat in the blood. 32 And they sent the coat reaching to the feet, and they brought it to their father, and said, “We have found this. Now look, is this your son’s long coat or not?” 33 And he knew it, and said, “It is my son’s long coat. An evil beast has devoured him. Yosef is without doubt torn in pieces. 34 And Ya’akov tore his clothes and put sackcloth on his loins, and mourned for his son many days. 35 And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted, and said, “For I will go down to Sheol to my son mourning.” And his father wept for him. 36 And the Midyanim sold him into Mitsrayim to Potifar, a eunuch of Pharaoh’s, and captain of the executioners.

Verse 11: And his brothers envied him; but his father observed את the word.

Verse 28: Then there passed by Midyanim merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up את Yosef out of the pit, and sold את Yosef to the Yishma’elim for 20 pieces of silver. And they brought את Yosef into Mitsrayim.
Verse 29: And Re’uven returned to the pit, and behold, Yosef was not in the pit. And he tore את his clothes.
