Restored English Translation of Genesis: Chapter 36

Here is my Restored English Translation (RET) of Beresheet (Genesis) chapter 36.  As usual, it contains the Hebrew names, with a glossary of them afterwards.  At the end is a list of where the Aleph Tavs occur, as they are no longer included in the main text.

CHAPTER 36

1 Now these are the generations of Esav, who is Edom. 2 Esav took his wives from the Kena’ani women: Adah the daughter of Elon the Chitti, and Oholivamah the daughter of Anah the daughter of Tsivon the Chivi, 3 and Basemat the daughter of Yishma’el, sister of Nevayot. 4 And Adah bore Elifaz to Esav; and Basemat bore Re’uel; 5 and Oholivamah bore Ye’ush, and Ya’alam, and Korach. These are the sons of Esav, who were born to him in the land of Kena’an. 6 And Esav took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the souls of his house, and his livestock, and all his beasts, and all his wealth, which he had got in the land of Kena’an, and went to a land away from the face of his brother Ya’akov; 7 for their riches were too great they might live together, and the land in which they were strangers could not bear them because of their livestock. 8 And Esav lived in Mount Seir (Esav is Edom). 9 And these are the generations of Esav the father of Edom in Mount Seir. 10 These are the names of Esav’s sons: Elifaz the son of Esav’s wife Adah, Re’uel the son of Esav’s wife Basemat. 11 And the sons of Elifaz were Teman, Omar, Tsefo, and Gatam, and Kenaz. 12 And Timna was concubine to Esav’s son Elifaz; and she bore Amalek to Elifaz. These were the sons of Esav’s wife Adah. 13 And these are the sons of Re’uel: Nachat, and Zerach, Shammah, and Mizzah. These were the sons of Esav’s wife Basemat. 14 And these were the sons of Oholivamah, the daughter of Anah the daughter of Tsivon, Esav’s wife: and she bore Ye’ush, and Yalam, and Korach to Esav. 15 These were princes of the sons of Esav: the sons of Elifaz the firstborn son of Esav; prince Teman, prince Omar, prince Tsefo, prince Kenaz, 16 prince Gatam, and prince Amalek. These are the princes that came from Elifaz in the land of Edom; these were the sons of Adah. 17 And these are the sons of Esav’s son Re’uel: prince Nachat, prince Zerach, prince Shammah, prince Mizzah. These are the princes that came of Re’uel in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Esav’s wife Basemat. 18 And these are the sons of Esav’s wife Oholivamah: prince Ye’ush, prince Yalam, prince Korach. These were the princes that came from Oholivamah the daughter of Anah, Esav’s wife. 19 These are the sons of Esav, who is Edom, and these are their princes.
20 These are the sons of Seir the Chori, who inhabited the land: Lotan, and Shoval, and Tsivon, and Anah, 21 and Dishon, and Etser, and Dishan. These are the princes of the Chori, the children of Seir in the land of Edom. 22 And the children of Lotan were Chori and Hemam; and Lotan’s sister was Timna. 23 And these were the children of Shoval: Alvan, and Manachat, and Eval, Shefo, and Onam. 24 And these are the children of Tsivon: both Ayah, and Anah; this was that Anah who found the warm springs in the wilderness as he fed the donkeys of his father Tsivon. 25 And these were the children of Anah: Dishon, and Oholivamah the daughter of Anah. 26 And these are the children of Dishon: Chemdan, and Eshban, and Yitran, and Keran. 27 The children of Etser are these: Bilhan, and Za’avan, and Akan. 28 These are the children of Dishan: Uts and Aran. 29 These are the princes that came from the Chori: prince Lotan, prince Shoval, prince Tsivon, prince Anah, 30 prince Dishon, prince Etser, prince Dishan. These are the Chori princes, according to their princes in the land of Seir.

31 And these are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom, before any king reigned over the Yisra’elim. 32 And Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom; and the name of his city was Dinhavah. 33 And Bela died, and Yovav the son of Zerach of Bozrah reigned in his place. 34 And Yovav died, and Chusham of the land of the Temani reigned in his place. 35 And Chusham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad, who struck
Midyan in the field of Moav, reigned in his place; and the name of his city was Avit. 36 And Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his place. 37 And Samlah died, and Sha’ul of Rechovot by the river reigned in his place. 38 And Sha’ul died, and Ba’al-Chanan the son of Akbor reigned in his place. 39 And Ba’al-Chanan the son of Akbor died, and Hadad reigned in his place; and the name of his city was Pa’u.  And his wife’s name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahav. 40 And these are the names of the princes that came from Esav, according to their families, after their places, by their names: prince Timnah, prince Alvah, prince Yetet, 41 prince Oholivamah, prince Elah, prince Pinon, 42 prince Kenaz, prince Teman, prince Mivtsar, 43 prince Magdi’el, prince Iram. These are the princes of Edom, according to their habitations in the land of their possession; he is Esav the father of the Edomim.
